THE ART OF PAPER CASTING
At Moontree Letterpress, every scrap of paper holds value. For years I’ve saved the offcuts from my studio, knowing that this beautiful, heavyweight cotton stock deserved a second life. What began as a small experiment has grown into a passion project: transforming these remnants into hand-cast paper reliefs using traditional German cookie molds. The process is both tactile and meditative—turning shredded paper into pulp, pressing it into carved molds, and carefully lifting away delicate impressions that echo centuries of craftsmanship.
Over the past two years, this little side project has grown into something I’ve started blending with letterpress printing. By layering ink and impression with cast paper forms, I’m creating pieces that feel tactile, thoughtful, and sustainable—an extension of my love for paper and print. For me, it’s a way to honor materials, reduce waste, and experiment with new ways of keeping traditional craft alive. Just as letterpress printing preserves the art of impression, paper casting preserves memory in relief—capturing fleeting moments in a form that endures.
